Good evening everyone. My name is Mathilde Braithwaite and I work as an assistant at the Modern Retail Association.
I have been kindly asked to give a speech on the future of retail to you hardworking retail marketing and management students from the University of California, San Diego.
Therefore this speech will analyse the current challenges for the retail industry, and discuss how retailers can survive and thrive in the future.
And all this leaves one question open: how can retailers survive and thrive in the future? Futurist Faith Popcorn predicts, that hyper-customized concierge, on-demand services and containment, the integration of ultra-convivence, consump-tion and entertainment, is continued to be expected .
One way to survive in the re-tail industry in the future, is to use a lot of digital technologies and social media.
The technological development is making it possible in the not-so-distant future for con-sumers pantries to order their products for them .
Additionally Google home have made a new feature, where consumers can ask Google Assistant to find in-stock products at the closets stores , which gives the brick and mortar segment a possibil-ity of surviving in the future.
