I think this topic is among one of the most important things in our world. The different social media apps and websites have a giant influence on us, and a lot of people are addicted to it. Some people spend several hours every day scrolling through social media.
They cannot survive a day without checking Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc. because they are in a constant need to stay updated in what happens between their friends. But why is social media such a big thing in our daily routines? And is social media used as a way of self- promotion for teenagers?
Like many others, I also own a Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat account. I use these sites every day for around 1 hour, just checking my starting page and if I have received any new messages lately. I don’t live on social media and don’t have the need of post statuses and show the world what I am doing at the moment all the time.
That has never been of my interest. I used to be like that. I used to post a lot of meaningless statuses on Facebook, in order to get attention and to let the people know that I was on Facebook.
Lately, there have been many teenagers on the different social media who post statuses in order to get likes out of it. The statuses could be like “If you don’t like this in 5 seconds, your mom will die in an accident” or “Like this status, if you are breathing right now”.
Some of my friends actually likes these post as they think that this is actually a real thing and they don’t want their mom dying in an accident. They say that they don’t lose anything from liking the post. But do you win anything? I don’t think so.
The only person who wins anything from it, is the one creating the post. He wanted to be out there on Facebook, and he got exactly what he wanted. Attention. This is what you in today’s society call “Like hunters”.
