My name is Julie, and I am studying Sociology at the University of Texas. First of all, I would like to start by saying thank you for having me here today.

I am here today to give a speech about the importance of Giving ex-cons a second chance, and the effect it has on society, but also for businesses.

In America, it is difficult for former inmates getting a job. More than 60 percent of former inmates cannot find work within their first year out of jail.

Companies in the USA have generally been too bad to hire former inmates. Over the last few decades, they have been getting better, but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

Most companies are nervous about hiring inmates because it costs a lot of money to train people to do the job the company wants, and to do it adequately.

They are also scared that the former inmates get back into their former criminal life. One of their fears is that they will commit a crime on the new job.

For the former prisoners it is about the constant anxiety that everyone knows about their criminal background. So, they will prove from the moment they get hired that they are good enough.

For the most part they will try to improve. Many of them are willing to work overtime and do anything to improve their image.
